Nelson Mandela is celebrating his 90th birthday in style. He is having a concert on Friday in London’s Hyde Park to benefit his 46664 campaign against HIV/AIDS. The campaign, named after Mandela’s prison number during his 27-year incarceration, aims to raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Some of the artists performing will be, Queen, Leona Lewis, Annie Lennox, Simple Minds, Eddy Grant, Razorlight and Sugababes.
Amy Winehouse is supposed to be performing at this event even though she has been diagnosed with what seems to be the early signs emphysema. Her spokesperson said, “She had a couple of hours off to rehearse and everyone who heard her thought she sounded amazing so it went well. And it seems likely that she will be ready for the Mandela concert and for Glastonbury.” I hope she doesn’t embarrass herself like she did in Portugal.
Tonight there is a special dinner to honor Mandela. Here are a few pics of the arrivals, Kim Cattral, Leona Lewis, Uma Thurman, Robert DeNiro, Forest Whitaker, and Denzel Washington.
