Caroline Kennedy and Sarah Jessica Parker want you to shop ’til you drop AND feel good about doing it! They kicked off the 5th annual “Shop for Public Schools” promotion today in New York City.

So to all my New Yorkers out there hit the stores! Over 200 stores are participating and donating part of their proceeds to public school libraries. This money goes towards helping pay for books, technology and other resources in schools that need it the most.

Vice Chairwoman Caroline Kennedy says, the money will help children “learn to love reading, improve their research skills and pursue their dreams.”

Rachael Ray’s empire is going to grow even bigger! The famous cook is starting a charity-driven line of dog foods based on recipes she has created for her pit bull, Isaboo. (shown in picture)

“It seemed like not a lot of extra time to donate to something that could potentially raise millions of dollars for championing these little creatures that can’t speak for themselves,” Ray said. A line for cats also is planned.

All of her proceeds from sales of Rachael Ray Nutrish pet foods will go to Rachael’s Rescue, which she founded to help at-risk animals.

Bless her!  I have a soft spot in my heart for all animals and I am so happy to see a celebrity donate all the proceeds to help them!

I love to blog because I get to reach a wide audience. I have seen my map of readers and you guys are so diverse and really so awesome. I try to keep my blog clean of adverts (you may get some from wordpress but I don’t make any money from it) but every now again I will see a story that needs some attention.

Our local Humane Society in Miami is having a major crisis.
Their air conditioner broke down and they need to raise $85,000 to replace it. The animals are suffering! They are having to resort to cool down the kitties by using ice cubes!

Those of you that can, please make a donation to the Greater Miami Humane Society. I have adopted from them before and they really have some great people there who care about the animals.

I know I have the best readers in the world. Thanks guys!

Wow Sharon Stone should not open her mouth! May 26, 2008

I have no clue what the reporters are saying in Chinese but I can’t imagine its very good! How dare Sharon Stone blame the earthquakes on bad karma? Why don’t celebrities just keep their mouths shut? I doubt the Dalai Lama will remain her “friend”.

Anyone out there can translate?

UPDATE: The awesome bloggers over at celebitchy.com offered up $10 per comment up to $1,000 to donate to earthquake relief in China! That is so great! The team over at accidentalsexiness wishes it could afford to donate that much but we can’t. We will however donate $1 per post up to $100.

I do encourage those of you out there to go to this awesome website where you can donate as much as you’d like. Maybe other bloggers can follow suit and raise a few bucks for this great cause as well.

Alicia Keys takes a journey May 24, 2008

Alicia Keys is a woman on a mission. She is in town for a very special concert that benefits more than just her fans.

”I have been blessed to travel around the world. I have spent a lot of time in Africa, and during those trips got to see firsthand the needs of people suffering with AIDS,” says Keys, 27, who has noted in past interviews that she was born the year the epidemic began. “I knew I needed to do something.”

So Keys joined Leigh Blake — a humanitarian activist who has helped raise millions for AIDS through art and music organizations — in founding Keep A Child Alive. The organization provides medication, support and orphan care to families battling the HIV/AIDS pandemic.Keep A Child Alive has helped more than 40,000 people and provided funding to 14 clinical and orphan care sites in seven countries.”You go there and see how AIDS has affected the people there. You see orphans and 13- and 14-year-olds who are having to raise their families because the parents have died,” says Keys, who is in the midst of a national tour promoting As I Am.

“Once you see the need for access to medicine, it’s hard not to be personally moved.”Keys will screen a preview of her new documentary, Alicia in Africa: Journey to the Motherland before her concert Sunday at Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena. The film chronicles Keys’ monthlong trip to visit communities affected by HIV and AIDS in South Africa, Kenya and Uganda.Keys is also encouraging fans to make a $5 donation to Keep A Child Alive by texting the word ”Alive” to 90999.

She will be at the American Airlines Arena tomorrow night at 8 p.m. with special guests Ne-Yo and Jordin Sparks. For more information go to http://www.keepachildalive.org

Madonna auction breaks new record! May 23, 2008

The Material Girl parted with a few personal possessions — a custom-made white guitar and the contents of her handbag — at a benefit to raise money for AIDS research. She emptied her purse and came up with a magnifying mirror, hair clips, skin blotting tissues and lip gloss. She put it on the block along with a one-of-a-kind diamond-encrusted alligator bag donated by Chanel. The lot sold for $472,000. The 49-year-old singer asked the crowd not to insult her with low bids: “This lip gloss touched my lips.”

The annual Cinema Against AIDS gala, hosted by Sharon Stone, is one of the hottest tickets at Cannes each year, with hundreds of guests traveling to nearby Mougins for an auction dinner held in a giant marquee.

The rich and famous lined a packed red carpet on Thursday, including Madonna, Diddy, and Stone, actor Dennis Hopper, Harvey Weinstein and actress Natalie Portman.

“I hope we all leave a little poorer,” said amfAR chairman Kenneth Cole in his opening speech.
