Manhattan is experiencing a British Invasion! First it was Eddie Izzard, you know him as Wayne Malloy on hit FX show “The Riches”. He sold out three shows there last month. Then came Ricky Gervais who filled up the WaMu Theater three times last week! Get ready for one more Manhattan because Russell Brand is on his way.
“Better a comedy invasion than a military one,” Brand says on the phone from London after taping an episode of his TV series, Russell Brand’s Ponderland. “If it doesn’t go well, all you have to do is roll your eyes.”
You may remember Russell from his American break-thru performance in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”. He’ll reprise his Aldous Snow role in a new Judd Apatow project and costar in a Christmas flick with Adam Sandler. Sandler will also produce a film cowritten by Brand and his BBC radio partner, Matt Morgan, about a con man posing as a priest.
You can see Russell in New York’s Blender Theater at Gramercy on Sunday, July 20th and Monday, July 21st. If anyone out there is going let me know!
